INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHT DAY

As part inculcating common sense of knowing your rights to many Nigerians,Imolites and the entire society at large,the leadership and management of the National Human Rights Commission,NHRC,Imo State Chapter, was on last Tuesday, Dec.10th 2019 in Owerri,the Capital of Imo State,joined their global counterparts on the celebration of their Annual International Human Rights Day 2019.

The theme of the annual event: ?Youths Stand Up for Human Rights?

The demonstrators in their choruses trooped out enmass- navigated-took to Road Walk/Human Rights Awareness from Owerri/Orlu Road the major streets and strategic places in the Owerri city from the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA (High Court Owerri) premises to Bank Road, down to Wethdral by Imo Govt.House Roundabout and retired (at the Owerri High Court) where the intellectual summit on the needs and importance of knowing ones Human Rights was held.

Speaking to newsmen,the Imo State Coordinator of National Human Rights Commission,NHRC,Mrs.Uka Ukachi,expressed great joy for the celebration, but advised Imolites and Nigerians at large to always endeavor to know their human rights as citizens of the country to avoid unnecessary intimidation and harassments from any body,group individuals or from the government.

The State Coordinator, Mrs.Ukachi,cited on their placards inscriptions which reads:?say no to child trafficking, human right is sacrosanct, beware!!!,know your rights,live right, obedience to court order is human right,say no to discrimination, say no to extra judicial killings, and say no to child abuse. Other inscriptions are:education is our weapon and never too young to change the world?.

She more so commended and appreciated all the partners of the commission like the members of the Nigerians Bar Association,NBA, Youth Awake For Better Society, The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps,NSCDC,Ministry of Justice, St.Paul?s Boys Secondary School Owerri, and so many other Sec.Shools in Owerri, who volunteered themselves as partners?.

Ukachi,while speaking,insisted on the needs for society most especially the youths should stand up for their rights,but called on the youths also to avoid engaging themselves into all forms of unlawful activities that may truncate the careers in the nearest future.

?Our targets are the youths, we want them to know their human rights?, NHRC Imo Coordinator submitted.
